Volunteer as a Palpation Peep! Are you in western Kentucky? You can help our students become better massage therapists by donating your body to the study of massage.
It’s a horrible task, we know, but somebody has to take one for the team, right?!? By volunteering as a body in our massage therapy classes you will have most of, if not all of the following things happen…
- We will practice assessment skills by having you fill out a health questionnaire and by asking questions to clarify points.
- Will will have you move through your range of motion (maybe several times).
- We may learn to locate specific muscles by drawing on you (with washable marker) or using kinesiology tape.
- We will practice our amazing palpation skills by having you actually get on the massage table for a practice session.
Please note that all sessions are performed by STUDENT massage therapists. They haven’t been exposed to too many bodies… yet…(that’s where you come in!). They may be hesitant & are just learning proper body mechanics. Their massages are the result of their training SO FAR. Skills only improve with repetition & we want our massage students to be prepared for the real world when they graduate & receive their license. YOU are helping them be the best they can possibly be after 650 hours of training.
When volunteering, we ask that you are: prompt, respectful of the learning environment , and honest on your health form so the students may Do No Harm.
If you would like to volunteer as a Palpation Peep, send Val an email to palpationprep@gmail.com with the dates you would like to help us learn. We appreciate your help in raising the bar of massage education in western Kentucky!
